Abstract

In this study, the mortality rate of neonates admitted to the intermediate care unit in Cairo University, New children’s Hospital during the period from 1/1/2001 to 31/12/2001 was studied for 1 year duration and the causes of mortality of neonates under study was reported. The result of this study indicates that the total number of neonates was 210, the most common cause for admission was jaundice (38.5%), while the least cause for admission was infant of diabetic mother (2.3%), it is also proved that the highest mortality was seen in cases of respiratory disorder (34.1%), while the lowest mortality was seen in cases of IDM (1.5%).
