The present study was conducted to evaluate a new material that was introduced for enhancing the retention of mandibular complete dentures especially in cases with relatively flat ridges. The new material included the incorporation of a Versa-lock wings to the lingual flange of the Mandibular denture to extend it into the sublingual crescent area.Ten completely edentulous patients were selected from the outpatient clinic of the Prosthodontic Department, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University, according to certain criteria. The study was then conducted along two phases:Group I (Control group): Conventional upper and lower complete dentures were constructed for each patient using Butterfly impression technique and after three days, two weeks and one month of denture use retention of the mandibular denture was measured.Group II (Versa-lock wings group): The mandibular denture was modified by incorporation of the Versa-lock wings into the sublingual crescent area and after three days, two weeks and one month of denture use its retention was measured.A digital forcemeter was used to measure the retention of the mandibular complete denture for the two groups. A supporting device was manually designed to support the forcemeter knife and maintain patients head position during the entire measurement procedure.
