With ovariectomy or menopause there is a shift in adipose tissue distribution from subcutaneous to visceral depot. Visceral fat accumulation links to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. In the present work, we studied the possible role of 11β-HSD1 enzyme in redistribution of adipose tissue in ovariectomized rats and evaluated the regulatory role of estradiol therapy, caloric restriction or exercise on its expression.
