Abstract

The transseptal approach offers excellent exposure and visualization of the mitral valve apparatus. This facilitates secure suturing of the prosthetic valve in its place. The transseptal approach is highly recommended for use in redo mitral valve surgery, whether isolated or with concomitant tricuspid valve surgery. The closure of the right atrium with the clamp off is to be considered as it will decrease the ischemic time. The transseptal approach is a safe technique, and no serious arrhythmias are encountered.
