Critiques of current agricultural development strategies often fail to address the deeper structural issues rooted in the capitalist framework. Many criticisms propose reforms that remain within the capitalist system, overlooking the inherent contradictions that lead to land concentration, rural poverty, and environmental degradation. Even those who acknowledge the advantages of socialist farming systems often view the choice between capitalist and socialist agriculture as a technical matter rather than a fundamental structural issue. This paper argues that a transformative approach to agricultural development must go beyond surface-level reforms and instead critically examine alternative frameworks that prioritize social equity, sustainability, and democratic control over resources. By recognizing the organic links between the shortcomings of capitalist agriculture and its underlying economic structures, we can develop a more just and sustainable model for agricultural progress.
