This research is to investigate the use of the embedded-through-section (ETS) method as an alternative strengthening system for strengthening beam in shear. In addition to three control beams, the experimental program included five full-scale reinforced concrete beams strengthened in shear using ETS. The load carrying capacity, deflection, ductility, crack behavior and modes of failure for the strengthened beams were investigated to assess two major parameters. The parameters included evaluation the effect of web width and the effect of bars numbers. Test results indicated that ETS can achieve relatively high increase in shear capacity of the concrete beams.
