Abstract

Self-compacting concrete is an innovative high flowable concrete. It is considered the only superior solution for casting highly congested steel reinforcement elements. Shear behavior of RC beams cast using self-compacting concrete compared with RC beams cast using normally vibrated concrete was investigated. Normally vibrated concrete mixes were tested in both rheological and mechanical states. Twenty seven self-compacting concrete mixes were tested in both rheological and mechanical properties to investigate the effect of self-compacting concrete constituent. Six reinforced concrete beams cast using both normally vibrated and selfcompacting concretes with different shear reinforcement ratios were tested up to failure. The reinforced concrete beams were analyzed by nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis considering the characteristic properties of both concrete types. A comparison between experimental and non-linear analysis results considering the deflections, stress distribution, cracking loads and failure loads of reinforced concrete beams was carried out.
