Millions of kilometers of Pipes with large and small diameters are buried in sandy soils all over the world. The number of published works in the subject is extremely small as compared to the importance of the problem. The important factors that influence the design of the pipes are related to soil and pipe material properties as well the buried depth and pipe dimensions. A two dimensional model is constructed to analyze the problem. The used nonlinear model is solved numerically applying the method of finite elements. In the analysis, the pipe material type (steel, PVC and concrete), the pipe dimensions and its mechanical properties as well as the soil mechanical& physical properties are considered. The study also includes the interaction between soil properties and pipe dimensions and properties from one side and the pipe burial depth on the other side. This is done in a way leading to the optimal solution from both the safety and economic points of view. The obtained results are presented in a graphical form in order to facilitate its use in practical design works.
