Abstract

Due to the failures of embankment and cracks in the asphalt road, numerical models are used to check the slope stability of roads embankment to less economic losses. The major objective of this study is optimizing numerical models of slope stability of roads embankment using limit equilibrium method to enhance the computing of factors of safety and the slip surface of position and shape in the software SLOPE/W. Furthermore, the verification is employed by finite element model using PLAXIS 2d, to check the suitability of the proposed method in computing of these factors. A comparative study on stability parameters such as factor of safety and slip surfaces has been carried out using the traditional limit equilibrium method and the proposed optimize limit equilibrium method. The results show that the proposed method gives a value to the factor of safety and slip surfaces as similar as finite element method of PLAXIS 2d.
