Background: as people age, the normal functioning of the body gradually declines. This decline can lead to various conditions, such as impaired vision and hearing, loss of contrl over bodily functions, and cognitive issues. Additionally, older adults may experience psychiatric problems, including depression, dementia, anxiety, and functional impairments. Aim: assess factors contributing to depression among elderly at geriatric home. Design: A cross-sectional descriptive study design was used. Setting: The study was conducted at four geriatric homes in the Fayoum governorate and Cairo governorate. Sample: A convenience sample was used; they were 100 older adults 60 years old and over of both sexes. Tool: The data was collected by using two tools .The first tool consists of 2 parts: 1st part is the socio-demographic characteristics of older adults. 2nd part is the Factors contributing to depression. The second tool is the Geriatric Depression Scale. Results: The study results showed (81%) of older adults were living alone and (79%) of older adults suffering from a chronic disease, (83%) of older adults were joined to geriatric homes due to Feeling lonely, nearly two third (64%) of them had Duration of stay in the elderly home ranged from 1-5 years, (44%) of the studied sample has mild depression. Conclusion: According to current study results, more than one-third of the studied sample has mild depression, while a quarter of the studied sample has moderate depression. Based on the research and research questions, the study concluded that there is a highly statistically significant correlation between total depression level and social support and lifestyle, health status among the elderly, reasons for joining a geriatric home, and geriatric home-related data. Recommendations: The study recommended further research to assess the psychosocial needs of the elderly, and conduct regular studies to analyze depression-causing factors
