Background: The goal of any skin closure technique is to perfectly and tension-free oppose the skin's edges for a long enough period of time to allow for healing.
Objectives: This study aimed to compare closure of skin incision of Cesarean section by adhesive tape closure system (Steristrip ® 3M Health Care) versus the traditional subcuticular method using (Prolene 2-0 ETHICON®).
Patients and methods: A randomized controlled study that included 284 females above 18 years of age who underwent first Cesarean section with pfannensteil incision. They were randomly assigned into two equal groups, the first group skin closure by the adhesive tape closure system and the second group for skin closure by the traditional subcuticular closure technique Data were collected and tabulated.
Results: There was statistically significant difference between adhesive tape group and subcuticular suture group regarding duration of skin closure (<0.001). There was also significant difference in occurrence of postoperative pain (<0.001) according to Wong-Baker faces pain rating scale.
Conclusion: Both techniques were able to restore the physical integrity and function of the skin. However, there was a statistically significant difference (improvement) in pain score in adhesive tape closure system group.
