تناولت حكاية الصبية المقتولة التي جاءت بها شهر زاد ضمن لياليها، لتساعد شهريار علي حل عقدته، وتخليص الصبايا من قتله، والإبقاء علي حياتها ، لذلك جاءت بالحكاية لتسلط الضوء علي قضيتين
الأولى : الخيانة التي يعاني منها شهريار، ومكيفة تعامل شخصيات الحكي معها، وهو ما تمثل في شخصية الشاب الذي قتل زوجته اعتقادا بخيانتها .
الثانية : إدارة الدولة وسياستها، وجسدتها في شخصية هارون الرشيد الذي قدم لنا سياسة عادلة استطاع من خلالها ازدهار دولته وانتعاشها.
 
يقوم التحليل السيميائي لهذا المستوى في الحكاية علي دراسة الجانب التصويري للعوامل، ويتم فيه دراسة عناصر النص التي تشير إلى العالم الخارجي، وتبدأها بدراسة مفردات اللغة من خلال عرف بجدول النظائر استخلاص الحقول المعجمية التي تشترك في معنى واحد وهو التصويرية، ومروراً بدراسة الملامح العامة والخاصة للشخصيات وخلق الانطباع بالزمان والمكان وانتهاء بالمعرفة التي يتوصل إليها القارئ من قراءته، وكذلك دراسة الخطة السردية الأنانية. وتعتبر هذه الخطة المسار الذي تستطيع من خلاله رصد حركة الشخصيات، وما تقوم به داخل إطاالحكي فهي تتعلق بالعاملين ووظائفهم في الحكي : مستعرضة للنموذجي بروب وغريماس وعارضة لرؤية جديد نحو نموذجهما، ودراسة الخطة السردية للعامل الذات، وهي التي تقدم لنا المراحل المختلفة لتحقيق العامل الذات للهدف المكلف به وكيفية إنجازه .
