Abstract

Introduction: During colorectal cancer procedures, precise tumour localisation and thorough lymph node retrieval
are essential for both accurate staging and successful therapy. In order to locate colorectal cancer and track lymph
nodes, our study is to examine the significance of combined endoscopy and laparoscopy.
Patients and methods: We collected information on tumour detection time, intraoperative blood loss, operation
duration, local recurrence, and the number of dissected lymph nodes from 60 patients with colorectal cancer who
were divided into two groups: an experimental group that received preoperative carbon nanoparticle injections
(n = 30) and a control group that did not receive injections (n=30) in order to compare the effects of different
injection timings (3–5 days vs. 6–7 days preoperatively).
Results: Patients in the experimental group demonstrated significantly reduced tumor detection times (mean 2.71
vs. 6.91 minutes; p<0.001), blood loss (125.04 vs. 147.52 mL; p=0.013), and operation time (151.22 vs. 170.26
minutes; p=0.033) compared to the control group. The number of dissected lymph nodes was also higher in the
experimental group (14.41 vs. 8.96; p<0.001). Postoperative complications were low and similar between groups.
In addition, the experimental group had lower incidence of local recurrence compared to the treatment group (p
< 0.001).
Conclusion: In colorectal cancer procedures, injections of carbon nanoparticles efficiently improve intraoperative
localisation and lymph node retrieval, resulting in shorter detection times, less blood loss, and increased lymph
node yield. This method has the potential to increase colorectal cancer staging accuracy and surgical precision.
