تعتبر رقمنة الوثائق والمخطوطات من العمليات المهمة والضرورية لحفظ التراث الوطني للأجيال الحالية والمستقبلية، خاصة تلك الوثائق والمخطوطات المعرضة للتلف والضياع بسبب الظروف الجوية القاسية وعدم التخزين المناسب والإهمال وتساهم في حفظ التراث الوطني على مر العصور. تتناول الدراسة مجهودات مشروع ذاكرة السودان في حفظ التراث السوداني وذلك من خلال رقمنة المخطوطات والصور والكتب والوثائق التاريخية الشيء الذي أنقذ الكثير منها من التلف والضياع. الهدف العام للدراسة هو التعرف على الدور الذي يؤديه مشروع ذاكرة السودان في حفظ التراث السوداني من خلال تسجيله ورقمتنه وإتاحته. تتمثل مشكلة الدراسة في تساؤل رئيس وهو ما هو الوضع الراهن لرقمنة التراث الوطني السوداني؟ وتندرج منه تساؤلات فرعية: ماهي المجهودات المبذولة لحفظ وحماية المخطوطات والوثائق التاريخية؟، ماهو دور مشروع ذاكرة السودان في رقمنة التراث السوداني وحفظه واتاحته؟، ماهي المعوقات التي تعترض طريق الرقمنة؟ اعتمدت الدراسة في تحقيق أهدافها على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي ودراسة الحالة، وذلك من خلال دراسة واقع رقمنة التراث الوطني السوداني من خلال التركيز على مجهودات مشروع ذاكرة السودان.   استخدمت بعض أدوات جمع البيانات والمعلومات مثل الانتاج الفكري التقليدي والإلكتروني. ومقابلات مع القائمين بمشروع الرقمنة والملاحظة بالمشاركة. من نتائج الدراسة مساهمة مشروع ذاكرة السودان في حماية التراث الوطني السوداني من خلال تسجيله وحفظه ورقمنته. الصراعات والحروب وتعاقب الحكومات أضعف الاقتصاد السوداني خاصة فيما يخص قطاع الثقافة والاتصالات والمعلومات مما أضعف الاهتمام بعملية حفظ ورقمنة التراث. أوصت الدراسة بضرورة المشاركة المجتمعية في مشروع الرقمنة والاهتمام بالاستثمار في المجال الثقافي وقطاع المعلومات والاتصالات واقتصاد المعرفة. الاهتمام بالجانب الإعلامي ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ونشر ثقافة حفظ التراث. The digitization of documents and manuscripts is considered as important and essential processes of the preservation of National Heritage for current and future generations. Some of these documents and manuscripts were susceptible to loss and damage that is due to hard environmental condition and neglect proper preservation of National Heritage throughout ages. This study overviews the case of SDMP efforts to digitize and secure a number of manuscripts, rare books, photos, historical records from damage and loss. It aims to identify the effective role of SDMP efforts in the preservation of National Sudanese Heritage [NSH] by registering, digitizing, making it available. The problem of the study is major question what is the current status of [NSH]?  The questions arise from it: what efforts are being made to preserve and secure manuscript and historical documents; what is the role of SDMP in digitization NSH; what are the obstacles that hinder digitization process.     It uses descriptive analytical methodology and case study of SDMP; reviews mainly the present status of Sudanese National Heritage concentrating on SDMP efforts.  It also uses tools such as traditional and electronic intellectual production; interviews those in charge of SDMP as well as observation. The obvious results are contribution of SDMP in protection of NSH through registration, preservation and digitization. But, internal conflicts and wars, succession of governments which weakened Sudanese Economic which reflects on Culture, Information and Telecommunications sector through the process of preservation of and digitization of the heritage. Finally, It recommends the necessity of community partnership in SDMP to invest it in cultural, information and telecommunication sector and knowledge economics, and   pay attention to media and social media to spread culture of conservation of the heritage.
