Latino-American literature constitutes a multifaceted corpus of literary creations exploring themes pertinent to identity, cultural dynamics, migration phenomena, and social justice initiatives. There used to be insufficient studies investigating Latino-American children and young-adults literature that depict the lives of Latinos in the barrios of United States. This research probes the power of Counter-storytelling as a tool of resistance to the hegemony and dominance of mainstream Anglo-American Master narratives. Through scrutinizing three Latina feminist novels; Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango Street (1984), Judith Ortiz Cofer's Call me Maria (2004), and Viola Canales' The Tequila Warm (2005), the study claims that the selected novels (Bildungsromans) represent powerful Latina (Chicana) feminist Counter-narratives to mainstream Majoritarian ones.
The study minutely examines the selected novels through the lens of of Chicana Feminism. The study investigates the lived experiences, and delves into the intricacies and challenges faced by Latinx populations in the Latino barrios as an ethnic minority group.
