Abstract

Background: intra-abdominal pressure is defined as the pressure inside abdominal cavity which is a closed space. this makes the intra-abdominal pressure changes (even the minimal changes) affect the viscera. the influence of the increased intra-abdominal pressure ranges from mild degrees of intra-abdominal hypertension up to compartmental syndrome in which high intra-abdominal pressure(more than 20 mm hg) in addition to one or more organ failure occur . ACS is a fatal condition .
Objectives: is to early measurement and management of intra-abdominal hypertension.
Patients and methods: This prospective, interventional clinical study included thirteen patients and in which IAP was measured using Foley′s catheter through the urinary bladder every 6 hours.
Results: The incidence rate of Iner-abdominal Hypertension and abdominal compartmental syndrome was (30%) at zero hours and about (13.3%) at 48 hours while the mortality, survival, and morbidity rates among the patients with intra-abdominal hypertension were 33.33%, 66.67%, and 77.8%, respectively.
Conclusion: The study at hand showed that the routine measurement of IAP is important and contributes in surviving the patients in critically ill conditions so we need the IAP measuring for the critically ill patients  . gender , overweight , sequential organ failure assessment score, central venous pressure ,fluid chart balance and chronic medical illness specially cardiac diseases are all related to the incidence rate of intra-abdominal hypertension.
