يعتبر عصر أسرة محمد علي عصر التغيير الكامل والغزو الأوروبي على العمائر المصريَّة مما أدَّى إلى التغيير في ملامح العمائر المصريَّة والتغريب والاعتماد شيئًا فشيئًا على الطرز الوافدة منها العثماني والأوروبي والبيزنطي وغيره من الطرز الأوروبيَّة حيث كانت القاهرة هي الأرض الخصبة لاستقبالهم وذلك يرجع لرغبة محمد علي وأحفاده في التمدين والتحديث والعثور على جمال المباني الأوروبيَّة والفرنسيَّة ، وجعل القاهرة باريس الشرق.
وعلى الرغم من غلبة الطرز الأوروبيَّة في هذه الفترة وذلك نتيجة لسيطرة المعماريِّين الأجانب في القاهرة على تصميم العمائر إلا أنَّ ذلك لم يمنع ظهور طائفة من المعماريِّين الأجانب الذين عشقوا الفن الإسلامي
The era of the Muhammad Ali dynasty is considered a time of profound change and European influence on Egyptian architecture, leading to a transformation in its features and a gradual shift towards foreign styles. These styles included Ottoman, European, Byzantine, and others, which found fertile ground in Cairo. This shift was largely due to Muhammad Ali and his descendants' desire for modernization and urbanization, inspired by the beauty of European and French buildings, and their ambition to make Cairo the "Paris of the East."
Despite the dominance of European styles during this period, as foreign architects held a strong influence over architectural design in Cairo, a group of these foreign architects developed a love for Islamic art
