يوتوبيا كلمة معربة عن الكلمة الإنجليزية (Utopia) والمأخوذة عن الكلمة اليونانية (Ou Topos). بعد أن أُسقط منها حرف O)). فاليوتوبيا كمصطلح يرجع في أصله إلى الكلمة اليونانية (Ou Topos) التي تتكون من كلمتين (Ou) وتعني: لا، وكلمة (Topos) وتعني مكان، ومن ثَمَ فاليوتوبيا تعني: ما ليس بمكان أو المكان المتخيل الذي لا وجود له في الواقع.  واليوتوبيا نوع من العمل الفلسفي الذي يصوّر المجتمعات المثالية التي شُيِّدَت على المبدأ القائل باستطاعة الجنس البشري تحقيق الأنظمة المثالية؛ لكي يعيش الجميع في حالة من الانسجام الدائم.  وقد تنوعت النماذج اليوتوبية، حتى أصبح التعبير عنها في أشكال أدبية مختلفة، منها المقالة والقصة والرواية والقصيدة، أو في شكل نظريات سياسية تقدم صورة نظام سياسي نموذجي بمؤسساته المختلفة، مع تصور كامل لكل تنظيمات الحياة. والتاريخ الإنساني ــ منذ القدم ــ خرج علينا بالكثير من نماذج اليوتوبيا سواء كانت أفكاراً ضمن التراث الفكري لأحد فلاسفة حضارة من الحضارات كما هو الحال في الفكر الشرقي القديم، أو مؤلفات صُنفت خصيصاً لهذا الغرض كما عند أفلاطون ومن أتي بعده وصاره على نهجه إلى وقتنا الراهن Utopia is a word translated from the English word (Utopia), which is taken from the Greek word (Ou Topos). After the letter O was dropped from it. Utopia, as a term, has its origins in the Greek word (Ou Topos), which consists of two words (Ou), which means: no, and the word (Topos), which means place. Therefore, utopia means: what is not a place, or the imagined place that does not exist in reality. Utopia is a type of philosophical work that depicts ideal societies built on the principle that the human race can achieve ideal systems. So that everyone can live in a state of permanent harmony.  Utopian models have varied, and have been expressed in various literary forms, including the article, story, novel, and poem, or in the form of political theories that present an image of a model political system with its various institutions, with a complete conception of all the organizations of life. There is a difference between utopia and myth, which is that utopia begins from now towards the future to achieve hopes that are originally a cure for problems that the utopia owner suffers from in his reality and society, while myth begins from now, going back in time to the past to explain a social or religious matter.
