This study aimed to predict weaning outcome of MV patients using diaphragmatic excursion dependent shallow breathing index and compare it with traditional shallow breathing index. Methods: The study was prospective observational study that included 58 MV patients randomized into 2 equal groups, Group (I): were assessed using rapid shallow breathing index and Group (II) underwent ultrasonographic assessment for diaphragmatic excursion and assessed using diaphragmatic rapid shallow breathing index.
