Abstract

Objective: This an in-vitro study to evaluate the antimicrobial and staining effects of fluoride varnish containing Nano-silver particles on primary anterior teeth.
Materials and Methods: Nano silver fluoride was prepared according to the method described by Targino et al ,the antimicrobial test was carried out by Agar diffusion test, Each plate received a 100 μL of The three materials .And was incubated anaerobically for 24 h at 37 C . After incubation, the antimicrobial property of materials was assessed from circular zones of bacterial inhibition around each hole. The diameter of these zones of were measured and the mean of the 7 measurements calculated and subjected to statistical analysis.
Staining effect test was conducted on 21 extracted primary anterior teeth that were divided into 3 groups, each group of 7 teeth received different material, they were all subjected to color measurements using spectrophotometer, Color of each tooth was assessed at 3 points: T0: Color of natural enamel surfaces recorded ,T1: after assigned intervention and T2: Again after 24 hours of treatment. (ΔE) were calculated and subjected to statistical analysis
Results: In the antimicrobial test: There was a significant difference between different groups with the highest value found in NSF followed by fluoride varnish In the staining effect test: There was a significant difference between different groups. The highest value was found NSF , followed by conventional fluoride.
Conclusion: NSF had better antibacterial effect than conventional fluoride varnish, It had more staining effect than conventional fluoride varnish on primary anterior teeth
