Abstract

The research aimed to study the impact of external debt swap as an economic tool for climate finance on Egyptian national security, in addition to studying the process of debt reduction for climate finance and knowing the importance of debt swap for climate and the impact of these policies on Egyptian national security. The researcher followed the inductive approach in reviewing the literature that specialized in the study variables from previous references and studies in the period from 2019 to 2025 AD. It was found that Arab studies that specialized in the subject of debt swap are very few, as well as its environmental impact through climate projects. To achieve the objectives of the research, a questionnaire was designed in a scientific methodological manner according to the requirements of the study using the five-point Likert method, which relies primarily on correlation, and it was distributed to a sample of employees at the Ministry of International Cooperation. The results of the research reached several results, the most important of which are: 1- The increase in Egypt's external debt has doubled in recent years, which has constituted a burden on the national economy and consequently had negative effects on Egyptian national security. 2- External debt swap helps reduce the dollar burden on the state and improves the level of investment. 3- Exchanging external debts helps develop environmental development projects that contribute to significantly reducing the carbon footprint. 4- Climate financing is one of the processes that contributes to reducing global warming rates at the international and regional levels. 5- Exchanging external debts for financing climate projects contributes positively to achieving environmental sustainability.
