Abstract

Food loss affects the process of economic and social development and the amount of production of food commodities, and then on the efforts made by the state to eradicate hunger, which leads to an increase in the prices of food commodities, and thus a lack of opportunities for low-income and poor individuals in the Egyptian countryside to obtain the healthy food necessary for them, which results in Increased numbers of individuals suffering from malnutrition.
The issue of food loss is considered one of the important issues in society because of its negative health, social, economic and environmental effects on society, whether in urban or rural areas. Despite rural women's experiences with regard to the processes of purchasing, preparing, cooking and storing food, the amounts of food wasted inside the home were not affected by this.
The research mainly aims to study the behavior of the rural women surveyed regarding reducing household food losses in achieving food security for the Egyptian countryside in some villages in El-Behira Governorate.
El-Behira Governorate was chosen to conduct the field study due to its proximity to the researcher's residential area and to Alexandria University, and due to its high relative importance in that it is considered the first agricultural governorate in Egyptian general. Likewise, the largest centers were chosen in terms of the relative importance of the number of females at the governorate level. Kafr El Dawwar and Damanhour centers were chosen.
The results indicate that about 58.2% of the study sample affirmed their strong agreement on the role of knowledge related to reducing household food losses, while about 35.9% of the study sample confirmed their agreement, while about 4.3% indicated neutral, while about 0.8% affirmed that they did not agree. They agreed, while about 0.8% indicated that they strongly disagreed with the role of knowledge related to reducing household food losses.
The results also indicate that there are about 57.2% of the study sample confirming their strong agreement with the role of practices related to reducing household food losses, while about 36.7% of the study sample confirmed their agreement, while about 4.4% indicated neutral, while about 0.6% confirmed They disagreed, while about 1.1% indicated that they strongly disagreed with the role of practices related to reducing household food losses.
The results also indicate that about 55.7% of the study sample affirmed their strong agreement with the role of trends related to reducing household food losses, while about 37.8% of the study sample confirmed their agreement, while about 4.5% indicated neutral, while about 1.2% affirmed that they disagreed, while about 0.8% indicated that they strongly disagreed with the role of trends related to reducing household food losses.
The results also indicate that about 55.9% of the study sample confirmed their strong agreement with the causes of nutritional loss among rural women, while about 38.1% of the study sample confirmed their agreement, while about 4.8% indicated neutral, while about 0.4% confirmed their disagreement. While about 0.9% indicated that they strongly disagree with the causes of nutritional loss among rural women.
In light of the results of the research, it is recommended that:
-
-The importance of regularly checking food stocks to ensure that they are not spoiled - Make sure to write a list of the necessary nutritional needs and do not buy what we do not need.
- Use suitable containers to preserve food, which increases the shelf life of food.
- Read the instructions and expiry dates on foods very carefully.
- Buy high-quality food products.
- Cooking excessive amounts of food.
- Preserve and store food, whether in home refrigerators or freezers, to protect it from spoilage.
