Abstract

Polymers are macromolecules made up of structurally identical repeating units of monomers. Natural pol-ymers are those that originate from natural sources such as plants, animals, or microorganisms. Natural polymers find widespread usage in the pharmaceutical, textile, and biomedical sectors. Natural polymers have an advantage over synthetic polymers since they are less expensive, non-toxic, and plentiful in na-ture. They are commonly utilized as binders, matrix formers or drug release modifiers, film coating for-mers, thickeners or viscosity enhancers, stabilizers, disintegrants, solubilizers, emulsifiers, suspending agents, gelling agents, and bioadhesives. This review discusses the source, categorization, characteris-tics, and uses of these natural polymers.
