انتشر نظام الوقف في مصر انتشارًا واسعًا مثلها مثل سائر المجتمعات الإسلامية، وتنوعت الأوقاف بين العقارات والأطيان الزراعية والأموال النقدية، وقد أسهمت المرأة المصرية بدور كبير جنبًا إلى جنب مع الرجال في هذا المعلم الحضاري الإنساني، لا سيما فترة وقوع مصر تحت الاحتلال البريطاني أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وحتى منتصف القرن العشرين. وتهتم تلك الدراسة بإبراز الدور المجتمعي للمرأة المسلمة في الإسكندرية فترة الاحتلال البريطاني لمصر؛ من حيث الإسهام في إقامة الشعائر الدينية والنهضة العلمية والتعليمية والتنموية والتكافل الاجتماعي، وذلك من خلال إنشاء الأوقاف على إقامة الشعائر الدينية، والتعليم الديني الإسلامي، والمساجد والأضرحة والزوايا، وأوجه البر المختلفة من دعم جمعيات تحفيظ القرآن الكريم، والجمعيات الخيرية، ورعاية الأيتام، والصدقات على الفقراء والمساكين والخدمات العامة.
 The endowment system in Egypt has spread widely, like other Islamic societies, and the endowments varied between real estate, agricultural lands and cash, and Egyptian women have contributed a major role side by side with men in this human civilizational landmark, especially during the period of Egypt under British occupation in the late nineteenth century until the middle of the twentieth century.
This study is concerned with highlighting the societal role of moslim women in Alexandria during the British occupation of Egypt, in terms of contributing to the establishment of religious rites, scientific, educational and developmental renaissance and social solidarity, through the establishment of endowments on Islamic religious education, mosques, shrines and corners, and various aspects of righteousness from supporting Holy Quran memorization societies, charities, orphan care, charity for the poor and needy and public services.
