كتاب (أسس تعليم اللغة) للبروفيسور اللغوي التربوي الأمريكي المعاصر ستيفن كراشن. كتاب اختصر فيه مؤلفه خلاصة نظريات تعليم اللغة واكتسابها، وضمنه فصلا للتطبيقات المقترحة لهذه النظريات، كتاب يعد انتصارا لفكر ستيفن كرشن في الدفاع عن الثنائية اللغوية. وهذا هو السبب الأساسي ترجمة هذا الكتاب من اللغة الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية؛ ليكون بمثابة المرجع الجامع على السواء بالنسبة للمتخصصين من اللغويين والتربويين العرب، وأيضا للقارئ العربي في تعليم اللغة واكتسابها للناطقين بغيرها؛ لسهولة أسلوبه ويسر عبارته مع اختصاره. وسبقت الترجمة بمدخل يتضمن:
أولا: (تعريف بالمؤلف) ستيفن كراشنStephen Krashen  وجهوده ومؤلفاته، وجوائزه، والدراسات حول نظريته. ودفاعه عن ثنائية اللغة، وتعلم اللغة بالترتيب الطبعي، وبتدريس المواد المحمية.
ثانيا (توطئة) في: علم اللغة التطبيقي تعريفة - ومجالاته وخصوصا:
(أ) تعلم اللغات، والصعوبات في طريق تعلم اللغة الثانية، والنظريات فيها.
(ب) علم الترجمة كمجال في علم اللغة التطبيقي.
ثالثا: (تمهيد) في نظرية كراشن وحول أهم المصطلحات المحورية المتداولة في هذه النظرية؛ مثل (الاكتساب - التعلم - الترتيب الطَّبَعيّ – المواد الدراسية المحمية – الغمر اللغوي).
رابعا: (ملخص) الكتاب المترجم؛ ونتائجه المستخلصة.
The book (Foundations of Language Teaching) by the contemporary American educational linguist Professor Stephen Krashen. A book in which its author summarized the essence of the theories of language teaching and acquisition, and included a chapter on the proposed applications of these theories. The book is a victory for Stephen Krashen's thought in defending bilingualism. This is the main reason for translating this book from English into Arabic; to serve as a comprehensive reference for both specialists from Arab linguists and educators, and also for the Arab reader in language teaching and acquisition for non-native speakers, due to the ease of its style and the simplicity of its expression with its brevity. The translation was preceded by an introduction that includes
First: (Introduction to the author) Stephen Krashen and his efforts, writings, awards, and studies on his theory. And his defense of bilingualism, learning the language in natural order, and teaching protected materials.
Second: (Introduction) to: Applied linguistics, its definition - and its fields, especially:
(A) Language learning, difficulties in learning a second language, and theories therein.
Fourth: (Summary) of the translated book; and its extracted results.
(B) Translation science as a field in applied linguistics.
Third: (Introduction) to Krashen's theory and about the most important pivotal terms used in this theory; such as (acquisition - learning - natural order - protected study materials - linguistic immersion).
