يسعى هذا البحث إلى معرفة الخصائص العامة للعتبات النصيَّة الخارجية في الرواية، وكشْف الوظائف التي قامت بها هذه العتبات، واستجلاء المدى الذي تمكَّنت فيه من تكثيف الدلالات أو تسطيحها, ويقتصر البحث على دراسة ما يُسمَّى بـ (العتبات النصيَّة الخارجيَّة) فقط, وهي: عتبة العنوان, وعتبة المؤلِّف، وعتبة دار النشر, وعتبة الغلاف الخارجي والصورة... فالمساحة الضيقة للبحث لا تستوعب الإحاطة بجميع ما يندرج تحت مفهوم العتبات النصيَّة بمعناه الواسع, والذي يتناول الاقتباسات والهوامش, كما أنَّ تطبيق السيميائيَّة بكلِّ ما فيها من أدوات إجرائيَّة على رواية كهذه, لا يستوعبه زمنًا بنهاية محدَّدة؛ لذا كان التركيز على أبرز ما اقتضاه البحث من هذه الرواية. ولقد جاء اختيارنا رواية "موت صغير- لمحمد حسن علوان؛ لأنها تعدُّ انفتاحًا على التاريخ، وانفتاحًا على الرؤية التي يُقدِّمها الرُّوائي للقارئ، لا العالم التاريخي (الوثائقي) فحسب, ومثل هذا الإجراء يتيح للنصِّ إمكانيَّة اللّعب على التكثيف الدَّلالي، الذي يدخل القارئ في دوَّامة الشكِّ حول سرديَّة النصِّ الأدبي، أو تاريخانيته التي تكتب عن حياة محيي الدين ابن عربي، هذه الشخصيَّة الرمز، التي تمثِّل تاريخ الأمة العربيَّة والإسلاميَّة وذاكرتها، ويبدو أن محمد علوان يأمل من خلال هذا العمل الإبداعي في نصرة الحق تجاه هذه الشخصيَّة (العالِم)، وإزالة الغموض، وانقشاع الدكنة التي غلّفت وجه الحقيقة مدَّة طويلة.
  This research seeks to know the general characteristics of external textual thresholds in the novel, and to reveal the functions performed by these thresholds, and to clarify the extent to which they were able to condense or flatten meanings. The research is limited to studying what is called (external textual thresholds) only, which are: the title threshold, the author threshold, the publishing house threshold, the outer cover threshold and the image... The narrow space of the research does not accommodate the coverage of everything that falls under the concept of textual thresholds in its broad sense, which includes quotations and footnotes, and the application of semiotics with all its procedural tools to a novel like this does not accommodate it A time with a specific end; therefore, the focus was on the most prominent thing that the research required from this novel. We chose the novel "A Small Death" by Muhammad Hasan Alwan because it is considered an openness to history, and an openness to the vision that the novelist presents to the reader, not just the historical (documentary) world, and such a procedure allows the text the possibility of playing on the semantic condensation, which leads the reader into a vortex of doubt about the narrative of the literary text, or its historicity that writes about the life of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi, this symbolic character, who represents the history of the Arab and Islamic nation and its memory, and it seems that Muhammad Alwan hopes through this creative work to support the truth towards this character (the scholar), and remove the ambiguity, and dispel the darkness that has covered the face of truth for a long time.
