Abstract

Southeast Maluku Regency possesses high potential for marine tourism; however, improper management that disregards ecological carrying capacity may lead to environmental degradation. This study aimed to analyze the ecological carrying capacity of marine tourism in several Ohoi in Southeast Maluku Regency to support sustainable tourism management. The study was conducted at five tourism sites: Ngiarvarat Beach (Ohoi Ohoidertawun), Yeer Teran Ratur Island (Ohoi Letman), Ngursadanan Beach (Ohoi Ohoililir), Ngurbloat Beach (Ohoi Ngilngof), and Disuk Bay (Ohoi Disuk). Data collection involved measuring the area size, conducting tourist activity surveys, and interviewing tourism managers. The ecological carrying capacity was calculated using a model that considers area size, environmental capacity, and duration of tourism activities. The results indicate that Ngiarvarat Beach and Ngurbloat Beach have the highest carrying capacities, accommodating 233 and 222 visitors per day, respectively, while Yeer Teran Ratur Island and Disuk Bay have the lowest capacities, with only 9 and 8 visitors per day. The key factors influencing carrying capacity include the usable area, hydrodynamic conditions, and the presence of sensitive ecosystems. Therefore, an ecological carrying capacity-based management approach should be implemented through visitor limitations, zoning regulations, and local community involvement. The findings of this study provide recommendations for sustainable marine tourism management policies in Southeast Maluku Regency.
