Abstract

Blast load represents a critical dynamic force that must be taken into account alongside with seismic and wind loads to mitigate potential human and economic losses. A comprehensive understanding of the effects of blast loads on reinforced concrete structures is essential for engineers to design resilient structures capable of withstanding such load. This necessity has prompted numerous countries to invest in research related to blast loads, particularly in recent years. Consequently, this study presents the analysis of a partially vented reinforced concrete structure featuring three solid walls and one with opening, subjected to internal blast loads generated by TNT detonation. The analysis was conducted using LS-DYNA software, yielding results for Von Mises stress, resultant displacement, and the failure mode of the structure. The CONWEP method integrated within LS-DYNA was employed to calculate explosion loads based on the weight of the explosive charge. Experimental validation, utilizing reinforced concrete slabs subjected to various TNT charges, demonstrated a strong correlation between the numerical model outcomes and the empirical data observed.
