تنتمي رواية رحلة ابن فطومة للروائي الكبير الأستاذ نجيب محفوظ إلى ما يسمّى فن الرحلة، وهو فن قديم ذو بعد مرجعيّ اكتسب سمات خاصّة، واستثمره السّرد الحديث والمعاصر في أبنية تخييليّة. وحللت الدراسة رواية رحلة ابن فطومة في ضوء منهج الإنشائية مميزة بين الحكاية story والخطاب discourse عند تودروف ثم خلصت إلى أن الرواية تنفتح على دلالات مهمة في حب الوطن، و أنّ الكمال المطلق هو نوع من اليوتوبيا التي يستحيل وجودها في الأرض.
Naguib Mahfouz's "Ibn Fatouma's Journey" belongs to what is called the art of travel, an ancient art with a referential dimension that has acquired certain features. Modern and contemporary narratives have exploited this art in imaginative structures. The study analyzed the novel in light of Todorov's narrative poetics, distinguishing between story and discourse. It concluded that the novel opens up important connotations of patriotism, and that absolute perfection is a type of utopia that cannot exist on earth
