Abstract

The present study has tried analyzing and quantifying nutritional components in Moringa oleifera plants under water stress 50% of water requirements (WR) by HPLC for better understanding health-promoting properties in the plant. Commonly known as the "miracle tree," Moringa oleifera is widely recognized to be one of the most nutrient-dense plants, full of vitamins, essential minerals, antioxidants, and essential amino acids. The present work uses a Shimadzu LC-20AD HPLC system fitted with a DAD detector set at different wavelengths of 244 nm, 265 nm, and 320 nm in detecting various phytochemicals. A C18 reverse-phase column was employed together with a gradient mobile phase of acetonitrile-water.
Data gathered from the study include the retention time, area percentage, and height percentage across different channels. A good relationship was obtained between the area and height percentage at each wavelength channel, showing consistency in peaks to represent the main nutrients.
These data confirm that Moringa oleifera is a functional food, possibly with a wide range of applications in both nutritional and health supplementation. Further studies to isolate the compounds responsible for these peaks would greatly contribute to increasing the value of nutritional and medicinal uses of Moringa oleifera. In addition, HPLC profiling at other wavelengths could lead to the identification of more active principles, contributing to comprehensive knowledge of the phytochemical profile of this plant.
