"Orientalist Study"
Abdul Megeed Ahmed Abdul Megeed
The study aims to provide a forward-looking vision of the possible preferences for the sex of fetuses, quantitatively and qualitatively, in the immediate future. When relying on artificial intelligence assisted reproductive technologies, determine the expectations of experts and the possible decisions of the spouses regarding the sexes of the fetuses, when they are homogeneous or diverse between male and female characteristics, the study was based on several questions, including: what achievements are expected to be provided by artificial intelligence technologies related to pregnancy and childbearing in the future, what are the sex preferences of infertile couples expected when using (AI) techniques, and what are the reasons for these preferences. The study took clues of feminist theory and the theory of children's value as a theoretical guide. Methodologically, the study used a prospective and a case study methods, and data was collected using a Delphi technique through a survey of a deliberate sample of specialized doctors as experts, and an in-depth, unstructured interview guide for a deliberate sample of infertile married couples as cases belonging to these experts, the study was conducted in Minia Governorate. General results revealed that experts' expectations matched the preferences of those intending to use (ART). Experts predicted that cases would prefer sexes of fetuses that carry male characteristics, and these expectations matched the preferences of the study sample of infertile people. On the other hand, the majority of cases decided to fertilize a single embryo carrying female characteristics if they were homogeneous, in addition to conforming to the expectations of experts, with the cases preferring the possible fertilization of twin embryos, one of which carried male characteristics and the other female characteristics, and the study revealed many social, cultural and economic reasons explaining these preferences.
