Abstract

The current investigation was carried out during 2021 at the month January- June to evaluate the susceptibility of ten wheat varieties caused by Angoumois grain moth, S. cerealella. Two tests (free choice and non-choice) were performed at 28±2°C, L: D 12:12 hr and 75± 10 RH in Research lab. The results were assessed on the basis of percent damage, percent weight loss, developmental period, total progeny and to record their correlation for susceptibility. The result demonstrated highly significant differences between various wheat varieties in their susceptibility against S. cerealella infestation. In free choice test. The wheat varieties, Sakha 93, Katella, Deepera and Canada 462 were the greatest infestation with S.cerealella, highest percentage of damage, weight loss and adult emerged. Meanwhile, wheat varieties Beniseuf-6, Masr-1, Senora and Gemiza-7 observed the least percentages of damage, weight loss and adult emerged. In non -choice test the wheat varieties, Katella, Sakha 93, Weaber and Gemiza 7 showed the highest infestation with S.cerealella , weight loss and adult emerged. Whereas, Canada 462, Gemiza 7, Masr -1 and Sakha -94 showed the least percentage of infestation, weight loss and adult emerged. The obtained results either from the choice or in non-choice infestation tests, indicate that none of the tested varieties were completely resistant to attack by the S.cerealella but their susceptibility to the infestation varied considerably.
