Abstract

The present experiments were carried out to study the influence of different wheat and rice varieties on the biological aspects of the granary weevil, Sitophilus granarius L. (Curculionidae: Coleoptera). The wheat variety Gemmeiza11recorded the highest percentage of the total adults emerged of S. granarius during F1 and F2 generations and represented by 34.7% and 34.6%, respectively. Meanwhile, Giza 168 came in the second category and presented by 27.8% and 27.8% during F1and F2, respectively. On the other hand, Beni Suef 6 came in the last category with 16.92 and 16.90% for F1 and F2 generations, respectively. The percentage of the weight loss according to the different wheat varieties after eight weeks (F2 generation) were ranged between 60.5% on Beni Suef 6 and 98.5% Gemmeiza11. Meanwhile, the weight losses on the other two wheat varieties were 93.5% and 76.0 %on Giza168 and Sides12 varieties respectively. The rice variety Sakha 101 recorded the highest percentage of the total adults emerged of S.granarius during F1andF2 generations and presented by 36.8% and 35.5%, respectively. Meanwhile,Sakha104 came in the second category and presented by 29.1and29.2%during F1 and F2, respectively. On the other hand, Sakha super 300 came the last category with14.0 and17.7 %respectively. The percentage of the weight loss according to the different rice varieties after eight weeks (F2 generation) were ranged between 43.5% on Sakha super 300 and 89.5% on Sakha 101. Meanwhile, the weight losses on the other two rice varieties were 57.5 and 51.0 % on Sakha 104 and Giza 177 varieties respectively.
