Abstract

Desert is a historical, legendary, anti-colonial novel in which Le Clézio hardily discusses the dark phase of European colonization for Africa. He describes with admiration the struggle of the inhabitants of the desert against those who want to plunder their land, their culture, and their freedom by trying to impose their laws and policies. Duality novel, it alternates between two titles and two narrators, descendants of a legendary man from the desert called Al Azraq. Happiness, told by Nour, the one who witnessed the struggle of the blue warriors and their movement from south to north with the great sheik Ma el Aïnine.  The second title: Life among slaves, told by Lalla. Girl from the desert. She dreams of living abroad, looking for her lost happiness. A few months after leaving for Marseille, she realized that living in a luxurious place far from her origins would not allow her to regain her balance. She quickly returns to the desert, where freedom, spirituality, and her most intimate memories. This research aims to explore the theme of nomadism and its relationship to myths, in particular Marcia Eliade's myth of the eternal return. We will look at how the author demonstrates human resilience through her meticulous description of the desert and the blue warriors. We will also look at how he uses historical events to pay tribute to the legendary figure of Ma el Aïnine.
