Abstract

The study aimed to clarify the impact of using geographic information systems in planning land use for sustainable tourism in the Suez Canal axis. To achieve the study objective, a survey form was designed and distributed using the program (SPSS, V.26). 45 questionnaires were distributed to experts and officials in the field of tourism and geographic information systems from the governorates of the Suez Canal region, the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the Tourism Development Authority, Al-Jalala University, and the Faculties of Arts and Urban Planning. Geographic maps were prepared using geographic information systems for the Suez Canal axis area, and a proposed plan was made for planning land use in the Suez Canal axis to achieve tourism sustainability based on geographic information systems programs.

The study concluded that geographic information systems facilitate the process of making planning decisions to achieve sustainable tourism development, in addition to the relative weakness among specialists in tourism planning using modern technology and geographic information systems (GIS) and other technological systems that address the elements that affect planning processes and making tourism development decisions accurately. The study recommended preparing a development plan taking into account the capacity of tourist and archaeological areas in the study area and ensuring the availability of tourism services such as hotels, transportation, restaurants, etc. by using geographic information systems applications.
