إنّ للصورةِ الشعريةِ عددًا مِن المفاهيمِ الّتي اصطلحَ عليهَا النقادُ المعاصرونُ، وقد كانَ هذا التعددُ في المفاهيمِ نتيجةً طبيعيّةً لاختلافِ تعريفِ كلِّ فِئةٍ مِن هؤلاءِ النقادِ لِمفهومِ الصورةِ، غيرَ أنّ إشاراتٍ مُضيئةً تُبلورُ هذا المفهومَ في أدبِ العربيةِ القديمِ لَدى عددٍ مِن النّقادِ بِما ألمحُوا بِه المعانِي التي تُشكّلُ قوامَ النصِ الشعريِّ، وتُمثِّلُ جوهرَ بِنائِه الدِّلاليِّ.
فالصورة الشعريَّة تُشكِّلُ الدَّورَ الأبرزَ في تمييزِ النصِّ الإبداعيِّ عن غيرِه مِن كلامِ العامَّةِ، من خلال صُورته اللُّغَويَّةِ والبلاغيَّةِ وتوليدِ معانٍ جديدةٍ تقومُ بِرأسِها في تحويلِ الدَّلالةِ المُعتادةِ إلَى دلالةٍ فريدةٍ غيرِ اعتيادِيَّةٍ.
The poetic image has a number of concepts that were agreed upon by contemporary critics, and this multiplicity of concepts was a natural result of the difference in the definition of the concept of the image by each group of these critics.
