إنَّ العلاقة البيولوجية والنفسية التي تجمع بين الأم وأبنائها تختلف مستوياتها ودرجاتها وفق متغيرات كثيرة، منها: البيئة، والعصر، والحالة الاجتماعية، والعرق، والدين، والخصائص النفسية للمرأة وللذكر على حد سواء، ومن المعلوم أن هذه العلاقة في البيئات العربية القديمة، ليست واضحة تمامًا حتى في كتب التاريخ والسير، بل إنَّ المادَّة المنقولة عن هذه العلاقة مادة عزيزة نادرة، ومن ثم فإنَّ صورة الأم الإنسانية ليست مكتملةً على الوجه الذي نراهُ في العصور المتأخرة، ولا سيما الحديث، يظهر هذا من صعوبة الحصول على نصوص قديمة سواء في العصر الجاهلي أو صدر الإسلام تجسِّدُ ملامح هذه الصورة وترصدها بقصديَّة كما يحدث مع الممدوح أو الحبيبة أو المرثيِّ أو المهجوِّ، أو المعتذَر إليه.The biological and psychological relationship between the mother and her children varies in levels and degrees according to many variables, including: the environment, the era, the social status, race, religion, and the psychological characteristics of women and men alike. It is known that this relationship in ancient Arab environments is not completely clear even in history and biography books. Rather, the material transmitted about this relationship is precious and rare. Therefore, the image of the human mother is not complete in the way we see it in later eras, especially the modern era. This is evident from the difficulty of obtaining ancient texts, whether in the pre-Islamic era or the early days of Islam, that embody the features of this image and monitor it intentionally, as happens with the one being praised, the beloved, the mourned, the satirized, or the one being apologized
