تعد الشخصية عنصًرا مهمًا من عناصر بناء رواية، كما إنها من أهم محاور الفن الأدبي، حيث يقوم عليها الحدث، وتترابط القصة من خلال أفعال الشخصيات، ونجد المؤلف يعتمد على الشخصية، ويجسد لها مكانة في روايته، كما تعدُّ العنصر الأساسي الذي يقع على عاتقه القيام بمهمة الأفعال السردية وتدفقها نحو نهايتها المحددة، فالشخصية مدار للمعاني الإنسانية عامة ومحور لأفكارها، وبدون الشخصيات لا وجود لعالم الرواية؛ إذ أنها تمثل الكائن الذي يدير الحدث فهي: ـ" كائن موهوب بصفات بشرية، وملتزم بأحداث بشرية".( )
إنها كائن قائم عليه العمل القصص بالمشاركة، فهي تمثل " كل مشارك في أحداث الرواية، سلبًا أو إيجابًا، أما من لا يشارك في الحدث فلا ينتمي إلى الشخصيات، بل يكون جزءًا من الوقف."( )

It is also one of the most important axes of literary art, as the event is based on it, and the story is interconnected through the actions of the characters. We find the author relying on the character, and embodying a place for it in his novel. It is also the basic element that falls upon him. With the task of narrative actions and their flow towards their specific end, the character is the orbit of human meanings in general and the focus of their thoughts, and without the characters, the world of the novel does not exist.
