شهد النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين تشكل حالة جديدة من الحضارة الإنسانية تميزت بتحقيق إنجازات مذهلة في الجوانب التقنية، والأساليب التكنولوجية، وسائل الاتصال، وطرق جمع البيانات والمعلومات، وابتكار أساليب متطورة للانتاج، الا أن تلك التطورات التكنولوجيا والتى اتسمت بسرعتها الشديدة قد اسهمت بشكل ما في تنامي مجموعة من المشاكل البيئية المصاحبة لهذه الحالة الجديدة من التقدم. وكنتيجة لتفاقم حدة المشاكل البيئة علي الساحة العالمية، وكذلك زيادة سرعة انتشار الابتكارات التكنولوجية والتقنية علي مستوي العالم كان لابد من العثور على طريقة للاستفادة من تلك الصحوة التكنولوجية دون التسبب فى المزيد من الاهدار للموارد البيئية المحدودة أو حدوث تفاقم اكبر للمشاكل البيئية السائدة، لذا ظهر علي الساحة الدولية مصطلح التنمية المستدامة كمحاولة للتوفيق بين الأستفادة من مزايا الثورة التكنولوجية، والحفاظ على البيئة.
      The second half of the twentieth century witnessed the formation of a new state of human civilization characterized by amazing achievements in the technical aspects, technological methods, means of communication, methods of collecting data and information, and the innovation of advanced methods of production, but these technological developments, which were characterized by their extreme speed, have contributed in some way to the growth of a set of environmental problems associated with this new state of progress. As a result of the exacerbation of environmental problems on the global stage, as well as the increasing speed of the spread of technological and technical innovations worldwide, it was necessary to find a way to take advantage of that technological awakening without causing more waste of limited environmental resources or a greater exacerbation of the prevailing environmental problems, so the term sustainable development appeared on the international scene as an attempt to reconcile taking advantage of the advantages of the technological revolution, and preserving the environment.
