The term "Industrial Design Engineering", which was launched by Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1986 for one of its faculties, sparked a great deal of controversy when the name was translated into Arabic as "Industrial Design Engineering". The translation was misleading.
Therefore, it was necessary to correct this linguistic error, as industrial design cannot be introduced as a human activity to create objects with the aim of raising the quality of life of humanity, under the guise of "Natural Science."
Due to the philosophical nature of the research, its methodology was based on rational contemplation and logical reasoning, as the two branches of human knowledge were studied: "Human Science" versus "Natural Science". To determine which branch of knowledge the industrial design branch belongs to.
The research also discussed the basic issue of the research on codifying the concept of "industrial design" objectively by adapting some of its characteristics to accommodate the new circumstances and conditions caused by the confusion resulting from the use of the term "Industrial Design Engineering" as the explanatory statement for the concept of "Industrial Design."
In light of discussing the research issue, a set of evidence was presented to prove that industrial design, as a creative human activity, falls under the umbrella of "Human Science."
