Abstract

The current debate is about design dealing more with relationships, boundaries and energies to combine nature, culture and technology. The intellectual leap that occurred in the world in general and in Japan in particular helped to follow the principle of “eliminating the unnecessary and searching for beauty in simple, unadorned things", and for design to integrate with nature, and address both the body, soul and conscience (design for meaning). The Ikigai way of thinking encourages taking into account the elements of your passion when designing the residential space. Focusing on a goal full of meaning while ignoring the environment that is the focus of our lives does not mean a complete life. Any talk about a goal-oriented life must include enhancing the surrounding conditions that support that life. Ikigai is an existential belief closely linked to well-being and happiness, achieved through communication with others and with nature. Minimalism, raw materials and natural lighting are the most important factors that control design with this philosophy. It is the basis on which Japanese architectural thought philosophies such as ikigai are based, recognizing the importance of nature that occurs such as wind, sun, rain and materials and integrating them into interior design as a means for the user to interact with nature instead of it being something outside of his control, to encourage designers to create a distinctive relationship between the surrounding nature and the internal environment in which the individual lives.
