Improvement the frequency response for interconnected area power system using artificial intelligence techniques

Abstract

Abstract – An improved proposed design of intelligent Load Frequency Controllers (LFCs) for an off grid two area Hybrid Microgrid (HMG) is introduced in this research. Through applying Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO), intelligent fine optimized Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) and Fractional Order PID (FOPID) controllers are presented. The proposed HHO employed method performance is validated on a two area off grid HMG in the presence of various renewable energy resources and different types of energy storage systems (ESSs) under number of eventualities which include vacillations of load, sun radiation and wind speed implementing realistic measurements. The designated objective function and control parameters are the integral time summation of absolute deviations and the parameters of controllers, consecutively. The system dynamic response and simulation results show that the proposed FOPID LFCs are effective in reducing frequency and tie line power signals' deviations in a diminutive time. For supplemental validations, simulation results obtained are compared with genetic algorithm to get the proposed controllers' gains.
