The study examines the importance of emphasizing our societal identity and heritage in the face of the overwhelming pressure of Western trends, as we are now in the process of rebuilding our civilization in old and new cities, then the types of tangible and intangible heritage and presenting the variables of contemporary architecture and interior design and their impact on these societies and their identity. Communities, while addressing the positive aspects of local trends, through rooting in form and the elements influencing rooting in form, as well as the use of local building materials to preserve identity, by emphasizing the religious character of the society, the cultural character and its legacies of the society, the economics of the society, and then the social character of the society. In this research paper, we review a brief analytical study on the role of functional activities in the interior spaces of the Basouna Mosque, Sohag Governorate, Arab Republic of Egypt, by the designer Walid Arafa, as he is an example for designers to emulate in emphasizing the national character “identity", as Egypt's role is pivotal in the Arab region. It must be an example to follow, as has been the case since ancient Egyptian civilization, while benefiting from the thought and technology of global trends.
