Environmental activities carried out by Bedouin women in promoting agricultural biodiversity in the Dahab region of South Sinai

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the environmental activities carried out by Bedouin women to enhance biological diversity, determine the degree to which they carry out those activities, and study the correlation between the degree to which Bedouin women carry out environmental activities that enhance biological diversity and some of the studied independent variables. This research was conducted on a random sample of Bedouin women living in Dahab city, south Sinai governorate, consisting of 92 respondents representing 10% of the total number of 920 Bedouin families in the research area. the data was collected after conducting a preliminary test( pre - test) of a personal interview questionnaire during the month of July 2023, and the results were analyzed using the SPSS program, and the results were presented in repetitions and percentages. The most important results are summarized as follows: - There are environmental activities that Bedouin women do permanently and at high rates ranging from 97% to 100%, which are as follows: rationalizing the use of water at home 97%, not doing the unfair cutting of medicinal plants 99%, using leftover food to feed sheep and goats, doing house cleaning daily and permanently, and maintaining water wells from pollution in equal proportions of 100%.  - There were also environmental activities that enhance biodiversity that are not carried out by that Bedouin women , as follows: : participation in cleaning her street from waste 84%, non-participation in reserve work, and not using fully biodegradable organic fertilizers in agriculture in equal proportions of 100%. - That do not enhance While there were environmental activities-biodiversity and are not carried out by Bedouin women are as follows: poaching wild animals 87%, cutting mangrove trees to use as fuel 95%, your children break coral  reefs with boats during fishing 97%,, burning waste and garbage 100%. - A significant correlation was also found between the overall degree of carrying out environmental activities that enhance biological diversity and each of the following independent variables studied: the number of children, animal ownership, and participation in developmental activities.
