Abstract

Food is considered one of the most essential necessities of life, and human life cannot continue without it. It is also one of the key indicators of economic development in any country. The research problem lies in the severe disparity in income distribution among families. The research aimed to measure the distributive justice of annual household incomes in urban and rural Egypt. The study showed that relative justice in income distribution during 2019/2020, compared to 2017/2018, had an impact on consumption spending patterns in both urban and rural Egypt. In urban areas, spending on food and beverages decreased during 2019/2020. This led to a reduction in spending on meat, fish, dairy, cheese, and eggs by approximately 12.9%, 14.6%, and 5.6%, respectively, compared to 2017/2018. Meanwhile, spending on food and beverages in rural areas increased by about 3.01% in 2019/2020 compared to 2017/2018. This increase in spending led to higher expenditures on dairy, cheese, and eggs by about 14.2%, and fish by about 1.03%, while spending on meat decreased by about 8.7% compared to 2017/2018.
