Photocatalytic degradation of fluorescein dye (FLU) over SnS2/SnO2 photocatalyst

Abstract

The SnS2/SnO2 nanocomposite is applied as a photocatalyst for the photodegradation of fluorescein dye. In photocatalytic degradation, the mass ratio and catalyst dosage of the photocatalyst play an essential role. The modest difference between the conduction bands of SnS2 (ECB = -0.895 eV) and SnO2 (ECB = 0.15 eV) is ideal for Z-scheme formation, which inhibits the recombination process and boosts photocatalytic activity. Sol-gel was used to prepare the nanocatalyst, which was then characterised by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, mapping, DRS, and XPS. The maximum intensity of the photoluminescence (PL) research optical property of the catalyst occurs at 829 nm. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared SnS2/SnO2 nanoparticles against the photodegradation of photostable Fluorescein dye (Flu) was studied; at pH 7, 77.67% of the Fluorescein dye disappeared within 240 minutes. Recyclability study showed that the catalyst was stable for four consecutive runs.
