Abstract

Abstract
Purpose:
To compare the efficacy of topical Bromfenac 0.09% combined with topical Prednisone acetate 1% versus topical Prednisilone alone in the management of pseudophakic cystoid macular oedema.
Methods:
Randomized comparative study included 20 eyes of 20 patients diagnosed with cystoid macular oedema following uncomplicated phacoemulsification . Ten eyes were received topical Bromfenac 0.09% combined with topical Prednisone acetate 1%. The other 10 eyes received only topical Prednisone acetate 1% . Follow up for three months by visual acuity assessment , slit lamp biomicroscopy and OCT macular scan.
Results:
Mean baseline BCVA in Group 1 was 0.65±0.23, and after 3 months = 0.35±0.21. The baseline mean visual acuity in group 2 were (0.75) ±0.19 , at the end of study visual acuity mean values were 0.35 ±0.21 . Baseline Mean macular thickness of Group was 381.3±72.3µ ,while the mean macular thickness of group 2 were (382) ± 115.7 µ .At the end of study mean macular thickness group was (307.2) ±67.5µ, while group 2 mean values were (356.1) ± 108.82µ .There was statistically significant difference in central macular thickness between baseline on one side and two and three months on the other side . Comparison of visual acuity between the two groups showed a statistically significant in two months only while there was no statistically significant difference in other time intervals.
Conclusion:
Bromfenac combined with topical Prednisone acetate significantly decreased macular thickness and improved visual acuity in cases with pseudophakic macular oedema compared to patients received topical Prednisone acetate only.
