Abstract

Climate and local natural conditions are significant factors in the choice of many tourist destinations, Natural environments such as glacier-capped mountains, coastal and island environments, beaches, forests, rivers, lakes, deserts and many other beautiful landscapes are already experiencing the impact of climatic changes. Hence, the adventure tourism in particular is experiencing those effects of climate change, as relies on natural resources in offering excursions in extreme environments – polar, marine, mountainous, and tropical.
Adventure tourism is a growing sector within the tourism industry that focuses on the ideas of risk, danger, and adrenaline, while bringing fun, thrill, and excitement to the tourists. Adventure is one of the reasons why tourists travel to a country and now it is considered a thriving travel industry. Therefore, this research seeks to examine the influence of climate change on adventure tourism in Egypt and explore the extent to which tour operators have been affected by severe weather phenomena in the recent period.
This study depend on qualitative approach through conducting interviews with government officials from both the ministry of tourism and environment in Egypt to identify potential climate change impacts on adventure tourism industry in Egypt, and their policies and action plans in response to such impacts. Finally, it has been suggest a range of practices and strategies that can mitigate the effects of climate change and support adventure tourism industry in Egypt.
