Abstract

The pressing global challenge of limited freshwater resources has driven extensive research into efficient water purification methods. This study investigated a new approach to solar de-salination that combines a modified pyramid still with a vertically positioned wick still (VWSS). The research was motivated by the ever-growing water crisis caused by population increase and limited freshwater resources. The findings demonstrate that the modified pyramid still configuration with both vertically positioned wick still achieved the most significant improve-ments in desalination performance: The modified pyramid still alone achieved a 20% increase in daily freshwater production (6000 ml) compared to the conventional pyramid still (5000 ml). When combined with the downstream vertically positioned wick still (total 9200 ml), the overall productivity increase of the modified pyramid still configuration reached 84% compared to the standalone pyramid still. The modified pyramid still with vertically positioned wick still offers significant improvements in productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness compared to tradi-tional methods.
