Nurses’ Performance Regarding Nosocomial Infection Control Guidelines at Burn Unit

Abstract

Background: The nosocomial infections is major concern at the burn unit with a significant economic impact worldwide. Aim: to assess nurses' performance regarding nosocomial infection control guidelines at burn unit. Subjects and Method: A Quasi-experimental research design was used in this study on a convenience sample of nurses' work at the burn units weere providing care at burn unit with different qualifications were included in the study with total number of (82) nurses from both sexes with diverse ages, years of experience, and different level of education, affiliated to Mansoura university hospitals. Tools: Three tools were used: tool1: assessment questionnaire to assess the nurses, demographic characteristics and knowledge about nosocomial infection control, tool II: observational checklist to assess nurses, level of practices, in addition to tool III: questionnaire assesses nurses` attitude toward infection control guidelines. Results: Showed statistically significantly improve in attitude, practices and knowledge level. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was a positive effect of guidelines on improving of attitude, practices and knowledge level. Recommendation: Providing continuous education and update for nurses regarding guidelines of nursing practices about infection control at burn unit, training workers at the burn unit on adherence to infection control guidelines which help nurses implement their guidelines effectively.
